Do you get tired standing while showering in your tub/shower?  And/or, do you have balance issues? Consider using a tub bench/shower stool.  They come in various shapes and sizes and with and without back support depending on your needs.  Tub benches/shower stools increase safety inside the bathtub/shower by allowing you to sit instead of stand while showering, which reduces the likelihood of falls.  They can be purchased at local medical supply companies and through websites such as, Sammons Preston.com MaxiAids.com and RehabMart.com.  Prices can range from $60 to $200 depending on their features.

For anyone that is considering a shower bench, I would strongly urge you to consider an over the tub bench. These are the best for those people that fear falling in the shower.
2 legs go into the tub and two go on the outside of the tub. The bench then comes out over the side of the tub. This means you do not have to step obver the side and into the tub. You simply sit down on the bench and slide your feet into the tub area. It is truly the safest option available.

Hi and thanks for your comments. I think transfer tub benches are great and can be useful for a wide population including those who have had strokes, hip replacements, and those with arthritis. Its important to consider the size of the bathroom and walking space when considering a transfer tub bench.
