Great info. Are grab bars expensive? Are they easy to install?
Hi Geneen,
Thanks for your comment. Prices for grab bars can vary depending on the make and style. They can start at $40 and go up to to $100 and higher. When installing grab bars, its important to make sure they are properly installed because if not, they will not be able to support your weight and may result in you falling.

We do a fair number of grab bars for our clients. I stress that they’re one of the first accommodations that people should consider as they are relatively inexpensive and the return on investment is incalculable in terms of accident prevention. Grab bars are a good first project to do to test out a contractor for further, more involved, accommodations to your home.
As far as installation, we are asked to fix a few bars every year that have failed or loosened with time, but I’m convinced that there is a more insidious common error made with grab bar installation — that is putting them in the wrong place because the installer thinks they must be lagged into blocking. What a shame if you were to slip coming out of the bathtub, reach for your grab bar and miss it by three inches because that’s where the closest stud was.
I would recommend using an installer who is able to assess your needs and who is knowledgeable enough to securely attach your grab bars wherever you need them.
Thanks again.
