Do you use a walker around the home or to get around in your community?  Consider getting a basket for your walker.  A walker basket can be very beneficial.  Instead of walking and carrying items in your hands, place them in your basket.  This frees up your hands when walking and can help you make less trips by putting the things you need frequently in your basket instead of walking to get it.  Walker baskets can be purchased from local medical supply companies as well as online through stores such as Target, Wal-Mart, and Sears.   Prices can range from $15 to $25 depending on the brand.

Baskets are an excellent way to keep your hands free while also allowing you to carry items with out. In addition, I like to encourage seniors to carry their cordless phone in their basket while at home in case they need to call for assistance. It's also a good idea to have a bottle/mug with a top on it to prevent spills.
